Libby Hemphill, PhD, is an associate professor of information at the University of Michigan, an associate research professor at the Institute for Social Research, and the Director of the Resource Center for Minority Data at the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research. Her recent work focuses on political discussions in social media and automated techniques for detecting and addressing problematic behaviors online. She is especially interested in issues of access and power and how they impact online behaviors and how we study them. She earned an A.B. in General Studies in the Humanities from the University of Chicago and M.S., and Ph.D. in Information from the University of Michigan.
